Serving

Interesting word from the dictionary.  I shut my eyes, opened the dictionary, and the word I pointed to was “serving.”  I don’t expect Merril to wash up after serving me breakfast, lunch and tea on my birthday.  She can do that washing up tomorrow.
A taxi driver once gave me the sort of serve I can do without.  I cut him off.  He waited for me and called out a question I do not know the answer to to this day.  “What sort of a moron are you?”  If I chose to, I would need to think long and hard about that one.  I always thought a moron was a moron.  I never knew there were different sorts.
Merril and I were in a hurry to see a football match.  We stopped at a Thai takeaway.  The food served was so hot.  We could only watch people go by as we tried to digest what was served.  I broke out in a sweat.  Did not see that one coming.
A long time ago someone was serving me a cup of tea.  What they did not realize was instead of sugar they added salt.  When they heard the noise that emulated from me in the other room, they though I was being very rude.  Did not mean to be, I was just totally taken by surprise that is all.
We serve cups of tea or coffee to our guests.  Merril saw a cup we use and wondered what it was worth.  $169.  A cup.  Makes me nervous.  I balk at paying $5 for a Woolies cup.
I could be all noble and write about serving others. But I won’t.  Serve has a number of meanings.  I have been reminded of the table tennis serve.  Really though, I would prefer to get that one out of my mind.  Mine is pretty innocuous.  I couldn’t believe it when someone told me they were having trouble with my serve.  I reckon they ain’t seen nothing.
Some opponents put stuff on their serve I have no idea about.  Not only that, they disguise it.  The ball comes off my bat at an incredibly odd angle.  It is like the table is not in play.  Or else the ball just dies off my bat.  What makes it worse is I think “I need to alter the angle of my bat to accommodate that.”  So I do, but the next serve is exactly the opposite.  The ball goes sailing off into the distance.   Don’t tell anyone, but I have trouble picking it.
Thing can serve a purpose too.  Like a doorbell.  One place I got the doorbell worked great – until the place was mine and it never worked again.  We had a walkway that served the purpose of being able to walk around our pool.  Except one of the planks was loose.  I reckon what I did used up one of my cats nine lives.  It was staking near the plank.  Like there was something hidden close by.  I crept up and moved the plank suddenly.  I have never seen a cat jumps so high.
When I saw “serving” my mind went immediately to serving others.  It had a number of applications though, and it was good to think about them.
