Self Sufficient

Self-Sufficient
What I have trouble dealing with in myself is self-sufficiency.  Having said that I think it is good for a person to be as they are meant to be.  I need to be strong and resilient with a good measure of stability so that when others need it, I am there.  Conversely, I need others to be that way when I need it.  Although there are things I know to do and should be, I am kidding myself thinking I cannot lose it all in an instant.
It seems to me any strength I have is a finite thing.  I can be powerful but I can never be all powerful.  I can know stuff but I can never be all knowing. For me that is humbling to realize.  As a friend of mine jokes, “I’m humble and I am proud of it.”
Though I cannot lose it if I never had it.  We are hanging out for affordable batteries for our solar power.  They are not available yet but according to reports, it will not be long.  We would like to be self-sufficient in power and not depending on poles and wires.
It seems to me there are a number of companies that need to adapt or die.  Typewriter companies disappeared.  Video companies are disappearing.  I reckon electricity companies are going the same way.  They may fill a niche market but general consumers will abandon them first chance they get.  They seem to be ripping us off.  Short term gain.  They will disappear but not without a fight.  Some suppliers act like they are a necessity and try to manipulate market forces.  But it will become an irresistible wave.  A victim of our desire for self-sufficiency.
Food companies are making products seedless.  That is to force us to buy many times rather than propagate from one purchase.  I needed to purchase healthy food for someone.  I am thankful it was available, but I always found it weird that eating healthy cost more.  All I can think is I hope their days are numbered and more reasonable suppliers prevail.  I don’t wish ill on anyone, but if I feel I am being ripped off I do not want them to prosper.
Although self-sufficiency is the dream of many it seems to me there is an irrespirable tide channeling us to be dependent on government or big business.  Covid has shown us how fraught depending on overseas suppliers can be.  There is an understandable desire to make our country self-sufficient.
That is desirable but there are forces at work that will render that impossible in all things.  The stock market crash in the 20’s showed that to me.  It had a world wide impact.  Some did well out of it but most did not.
My mind continually goes back to the Bearing Bank.  One of the biggest in the world.  Sold for $1 due to a rash investment by a rogue trader.  Things are put in place to try to prevent that happening in the future but it always seems things go wrong and then are corrected.  It does those affected no good at all.
I am all for self-sufficiency as long as I realize I am a finite person in an infinite environment.  I want my self-sufficiency to be good for me when I am a memory.
