Self-Promotion

Aragon said in Return of the King, “Deeds will not be less valiant because they are unpraised."
To me it is not about proclaiming some good deed or letting everyone know how good I think I am.
I really feel the greater deserving goes to one who does a good deed in secret.  One who does not proclaim their kind act.  There maybe not immediate acknowledgement but from my experience there is really no greater satisfaction than the personal satisfaction of know a need is met – not that I was acknowledged for having met a need.
It is hard to write this without seemingly promoting myself.  Yet it is written because it is the way I am and may give some explanation as to why.  I guess that has a lot to do with my way of thinking.  For me it is not about who does a rewarding act, but that it is done.
I remember going to do something I wanted no-one to know about.  I was disappointed to see that who I was doing it for, was still there.  I went ahead anyway.  I will never forget that day.  It was really hot.  I got what I wanted done but just in time me thinks because it seems I was needing more and more water.
When I was involved in the running of an organization I did things just because there was a need to do them – and then doing a bit more.  That ties in with my philosophy of life.  To me it is about just doing enough.  It is about boing enough and more.  Everyone likes pleasant surprises.  No one was more surprised than I to get Queensland volunteer of the year for that organization.  Everything done was for the furtherance of the organization and not for personal recognition or reward.
It does seem that acknowledgement is important to some.  I do think it is natural to want to praise one who does something good.  I personally feel that acknowledgement and encouragement is always right.  My actions are not reliant on the expectations of the receiver.  Some things are done just because they are the right thing to do. 
To me encouragement is always right.  Sincere encouragement.  I will not encourage one I do not believe cares.  But if someone cares but is struggling, I will try to encourage the good.  It seems to me that encouraging one aspect often brings improvement in others.
It seems so much depends on who I am trying to impress.  Do something well and often promotion is guaranteed without the need for exaggerated self-promotion.
