Seeing

Kuskie is seeing things again.  Oh well.  I can live with it.
I was thinking about how often I can look and not see.  There is a saying I adhere to that, “interest governs memory.”  I was in a doctor’s waiting room and got talking to the fella across the way.  He had had to write something, and I had noticed he was left-handed.  I said as much and the receptionist commented that was observant.  Not really though.  It is just something I see because I am interested (besides, and I have never seen it, someone said being left-handed lends itself to smudging the text because the hand is following the writing rather than leading it.  Left-handed people also have a reputation for being creative types.  This guy was.  But that is all by the by)
I have mentioned before how we purchased a Rav 4 and suddenly I was seeing Rav 4’s on the road.  It is probably healthy not to take in everything because that would lead to sensory overload.
Still I see what matters to me.  It is too easy though to dismiss what I do not want to see.  Dismiss it often enough and soon such things fade into the background.  My eyes just don’t see anymore.  For me that goes for hearing too.  My eyes and ears become dull.  Something I see or hear becomes part of the landscape instead of part of my focus.
We can all look at the same scene and see different things.  It is probably why witnesses see the same things but give varying stories.  Someone can have a good fix on what was being worn but miss other things.  Another may know someone had a tattoo on the right forearm but be at a loss as to the clothing.  Another may describe in detail facial features and totally miss seeing a scarf.  In a sense to me that is a good thing.  I see a part and someone else sees another part.  It all goes to make up a picture.
It is fraught, but it is the way it is.  I had to outline a policy and had done so.  I then sought the thoughts of others.  What I ended up with was a way more complete picture that I went with.  A whole is made up of bits.  If I go only with my picture, I can end up with something totally unbalanced.  It may be right but incomplete.
I guess it has come through in previous posts, but I am very much into teams.  Someone needs to lead but decisions need to be based on a number of sources rather than one.  I have a part to play.  A significant part.  It is a part based on how I see things.
