I spend heaps of time in Word documents.  Having written more than 800 articles in Word documents, I have pressed the save button numerous, or a plethora of times. It is probably at least twice as many times as I often re-read stuff, make changes and save it.

It is incredible that I am here so much but have never really looked at my access toolbar.  I do use a couple of things apart from save.  I find the undo and redo facilities really handy.  Too often I am typing away and not looking at the screen, and when I do, the sentence is in some place it was not supposed to be.  Like the middle of a sentence up higher.  Or I have a major rethink of what I have put.  Undo is great.

There are other things there I did not even know I had.  Like an auto save.  It has been off the whole time.  I just tried to turn it on and decided it was not worth the rigmarole.  Besides I have a file for this stuff.  There was no mention of that, and I do not want to type everything out each time.  It is probably not the best thing to do but it is what I do.

I do see advantages in sending stuff to the cloud, but I feel I don’t need to though.  I spend enough time on the computer without accessing this file other places.  If I want to access it, I take this computer with me.

There is another button that is dedicated to turning on the mouse pad.  It seems to be set right.  Another button relates to speaking selected text.  I think I will explore that one.  Sounds like a time saver to me.  I have just activated a read text.   Sounds perfect for me to determine if something reads ok.

Finally for me there is a drop down menu I had never been to before except by accident.  It has a heap of other options.  I have ticked all I want to display and closed it.

I definitely use the save button the most.  The thing is though I reckon it will be a symbol that does not make sense to a lot of people soon.  It is an old disk.  I remember them.  A number of people already do not and that will only increase.  It won’t be long before I imagine it is asked “why do they use that symbol for the save button?”

They will be forced to do a google search on why that symbol was chosen.  I just did.  It directed me to a site titled “The Floppy Disk means Save, and 14 other old people Icons that don't make sense anymore.”  No wonder someone commented “yet again thank you for making me feel old, again.”

The way I do things probably seems so yesterday to many, but it is what I know, and it works.  I will stick with what works and if I am shown a better way, I will go with it.

I use heaps of icons on the laptop, but I reckon I use the save one the most.  It feels really bad to have done a heap of stuff only to have it disappear forever and feel like I just wasted a lot of time.
