Satisfaction

I get a weekly email from James Clear the Author of Atomic Habits.
He has a quote in his latest email that says “Consider praise from others to be a bonus. If you don't work for their validation in the first place, you won't need it to feel satisfied once it's done.”
I do like that.  I have found so often that seeking the praise of others to be a potentially fruitless pursuit.  Naturally there is one I want the please, but He is separate.  I believe this is referring to those I do business with or associate with day to day.
To me it is all about being satisfied in myself that I have done my best.  I am happy to use accepted standards as a measure of a job well done or not.  What I do not look for is the praise of others as a means of deriving satisfaction.  A job well done brings satisfaction – not the praise for a job well done.
My satisfaction is built on being satisfied in myself.  Praise from others is gratifying and encouraging.  Yet gratification comes from doing what I felt to do well.  I do derive much from the input of others and there are occasions when I will go with a suggestion, when it improves upon an original concept.
Yet I feel I have the greatest investment in my work.  Others can suggest but few own.  I alone stand or fall basted on what I do.  I feel I am answerable for me.  More fool me if my failure is due to adhering to unsound (though perhaps well meaning) advice from another.
There are things I must do for others, and they set the standard.  There are things I do for myself, and I set the standard.  It does not matter if it is something set me by another or something I have determined to do myself.
The bottom line for me is a job well done and to be satisfied in myself.
