Sand

Merril picked the word from the dictionary and it was “sand.”  I love the sand but no matter how careful I am, if I am in it, I will always bring some home with me.  Generally it will be on the bottom of my sandals.  The first sign that “Houston we have a problem” is the sand in the car.
But sand from the beach is generally worth it in my mind.  I do wonder if a group that was gathered around sitting in a circle with a cake in the middle, felt that way, when my dog ran straight into the circle and started eating the cake.  It was memorable for me anyway.
I do like sand in a freshwater creek.  I used to live near one.  I was in it and it was the first time I knew I was being watched.  I had a look around and sure enough there was a fox.  But trouble was that creek flooded.  When I bought the place I was told it had never flooded and I do not think it had till it did when I was there.  The person two houses down had just put in a $30,000 floor that was wrecked.
I have found sand at home can be really useful.  When our shed was built sand was built around the floor.  Merril and I were told that sand is really good for growing grass.  It has turned out to be that way.
We have discovered it is best for us not to use grass seed.  We use seed to feed the birds so when we laid it on the ground they thought it was just another way of delivering the product.  We came out of the house to find birds eating all our grass seed.
Well not quite all.  A couple of bits survived and we are encouraging those.    Sort of reminds me of the hair in the middle of my scalp.  A couple survive and I admire them so much.  They have lost all their friends, yet they battle on.  It is a losing battle though.
The reason I did not lose Merril was because of sand.  The sand in aggregate.  Before we were married Merril had three cubic metres delivered.  Trouble was, the car was on the other side of the aggregate and the only way to get the car onto the street was to move the aggregate.  That stuff is so dense and heavy.  It is not like mulch at all.
Merril had been saying she had a chest pain.  After we moved the aggregate Merril visited the doctor, and she was wheeled straight in (like within 10 minutes of seeing him) to have a stent put in.  She had a 90% blockage and the doctor said she would not have lasted another day.
I reckon sand is often good for photography.  Some of the favourite pictures I have taken have featured wallabies or shells in sand.  They do reckon though when it comes to sand and expensive camera’s leave the camera at home.  When I have taken mine, I have been super careful.
