Same Old, Same Old

Same old, same old
I got pretty excited.  When we see different birds, we like to get a photographic record of them.  We have about 24 photos of different birds.  I had definitely never seen this one before.  It had a really long beak.  It was looking into the tree like the crow does when looking for food.  It looked like the biggest bird we have seen here.  I thought, “I need to get a photo quick.”
Then I discovered it was a dove having a drink of water from our gutter.  It was not a never before seen species.  It was a dove.  Very common.  I was fooled by its posture.
I was disappointed it was not different bird number 25, but it did make me think.  That it was at an odd angle totally threw me.  Yet it was the same.  It looked different, but it was the same.
It seems I can be thrown off pretty easy.  Things can look to me like they are legitimate, but they are the same old same old.  The packaging may be new.  I can think it is something new.  It is only when I examine it I discover I have seen it before.  It looked different, but it was the same old same old.
Sometimes things are new and fresh and legitimate but sometimes they are not.  If I am not on my guard, I can be deceived into thinking the new thing is worth pursuing and getting a photo of.
But if today is anything to go by it can end in disappointment.  I am glad I had seen the ruse before I raced in and got my camera.  I ended up photographing it on the phone.  It could have been such a waste of time and effort.  I do not have that sort of time.  I mean I had….I had…..(well I am sure to think of something given enough time) to do.
In hindsight I should not be surprised that happened.  There was weirdness about.  This was before 6am and then there was a knock at the door.  Again before 6am.  That does not happen every day.  Correction.  It has happened on no day before.  All good, but weird.
I’m over it, but I think I learned something.  Appearances can be deceptive.  I should do what I feel to do, but if that means backing off that is what I should do to.  I backed off getting a photo of the bird on my main camera.
Sometimes backing off means eating humble pie (I have never enjoyed humble pie even when I was hungry).  Though today’s humble pie was not so bad as I am the only one who knows.  Oh, and you but it will be our secret right?  I have found eating humble pie is always better than pretending things are what they are not.  It can hurt. Sometimes pieces are scattered far and wide, but the end of it is sure better than the beginning or middle.
The aim for me is freedom.  I have never found freedom in lies.
