Sachet

The dictionary word today was “sachet.” It’s definition in the dictionary I was using was, “a small perfumed bag, (packet of) dry perfume for laying among cloths etc; packet for small quantity of perfume etc.”
As imagined as soon as I saw that I thought “I am right into that – NOT.”  But anyway that was the word.
The Cambridge dictionary was closer to my understanding of a sachet. “a small closed container made of paper or plastic, containing a small amount of something, usually enough for only one occasion:”
It actually reminded me of something someone I know told me.  They do lots of boat trips.  On one, the border people checked all bags upon leaving the ship.  They could not believe the number of people taking heaps of stuff from off the boat.
I, like most people, do see them when ordering food or drink.  Often there is a sachet of sugar or salt or something appropriate to add to meal or drink.  The other time I see sachets is when we stay at some joint on holidays.  Often there is a sachet of soap and shampoo in the bathroom – along with coffee and tea in the kitchen area.
I have seen sachet’s among stored sheets.  It gives them a nice smell, rather than a musty smell (or as on site said about sachets “a pleasant scent”.)
Sachets can really contain anything.  They are often made up by people as a give away item promoting whatever cause is being promoted.  These can be sample bags as well.
I did learn other things about sachet’s as well.  For example, in Polish it is written “torebeczka, saszetka” (sachets of sugar and coffee powder) while in Spanish a sachet of sugar is “un sobre de azúcar”
Alright for both of them I need to take their word for it.  But if ever I was in Poland or Spain at a coffee shop it could be useful.  Or grabbing them myself could be useful to (if culturally appropriate) and save me some embarrassment.
Ok this word has been difficult to write about in an interesting way.  But although I may not be into them personally I really am glad to use them.
