Run Faster

I think I will get it.  It may be a book I enjoy like “7 habits of highly effective people” by Steve Covey.  The paradigm shift in that book changed the way I think big time.
I am thinking of the book “Atomic Habits” by James Clear.  What I saw in his latest weekly email puts something succinctly that I have been feeling.  "Be ruthless about what you ignore. Time, energy, and resources are so precious. You have to be ferocious about cutting your priorities—more than you realize and certainly more than is comfortable.  You can only deeply commit to a few things. One or two? Maybe three?  Every pretty good, sorta nice, kinda fun thing you abandon is like shedding a weighted vest that lets you move at top speed. You were so busy focusing on how much you could carry, you never realized you could run this fast."
This may be just a me thing, but I would rather do one thing well than many things badly.
The temptation is to be involved in many things.  I know my capacity is fairly large, but what I do does not stop me feeling I could do less, better.  Or that there are things I would like to explore further but other things are like a “weighted vest” as he puts it.
It is important to me I do not confuse the good with the best.  Some things just need to be done.  But I for one look forward to the day another has a passion for something I would rather give up to pursue better what my passion is.
There are actually a number of tasks like that.  I do them with an eye to someone else doing them when that someone else is obvious.
In the meantime, I do what I do and enjoy doing it but there are some things I look forward to handing over.  I reckon then I will learn how fast I can run.
