Rocks

Rocks.  Contrary to popular opinion I don’t have any in my head.  At least I don’t think so.  It is hard to see the back of my head without a mirror.  Still, I reckon I would have been told.  Even the inside has been scanned a few times.  I have never had the doctor call me in and show me the xray and say, “see these things here?  They are rocks.  I reckon we can get to them.”
I do have a few of them in the yard though.  They are strategically placed.  Some are used for garden edging.  Others are just “there.”  If I think a rock is appropriate in a place, I go look for one.  In our yard.  I do not go to other people’s yard and take them thinking “I can use that.”  I either have it or I don’t.
I did have some around a bird bath.  I was having so much trouble getting the thing level.  I can tell if it is level when I try to add water.  It is not supposed to rush to one end and disappear.  Ideally it just cascades over the sides in a very uniform way.  I used to never have a problem.  Now I never not have a problem.
I was going up and up.  I reckon the Space Station was in danger.  I don’t use rocks anymore.  I try to level it at ground level.  I am having to resist going lower and lower.  I don’t want it to be a way to see the world.  I don’t want the ground moving on the opposite side of the world, and then me poking my head out.
In the meantime, if you see bird baths at an odd angle at my place it is not a mistake.  It’s art.
I got a pile of little smooth rocks delivered, and have used them as a base in areas, or on a path.  Initially the path looked really good, and would have remained looking that way, if nature had followed my script.  Now it is covered with leaves.  I am more disinclined to use the path, as I do not know what is in the leaves.  I tend to blower vac the leaves away from me, rather than rake the leaves towards me.
There were rocks around three sides of our home when we bought it.  It looks good.  I use that place to put pot plants or as a path.  A lot of it has weed mat under it, but still I am amazed at the amount of dirt above the weed mat.  I have discovered that when making changes.  No wonder weeds grow there.  Give them an inch and they take a mile.  We don’t use inches and miles anymore.  I am hoping you like me are bi-lingual.
I have what might be considered thousands of rocks around the place, but they are probably better said to be stones or pebbles.  I may not have rocks in my head (that is probably debatable) but there is one rock I carry with me everywhere I go.  I’m glad for that.  I would hate to not have some security in this day and age.
There is one lot of rocks that will need another home soon.  We are getting another shed.  Surely a guy cannot have too many sheds.  What is rock now will soon be a concrete base.  I will find a use for those rocks.  Even if in the meantime they just blend in with all the other rocks around them.
