Roar

We have seen the Roar play a couple of times.
I got given a Roar shirt and it is one of my most treasured possessions (ask my wife)
I discovered recently why orange is the Roar’s colour.  The team was derived from Holland Park in Brisbane.  Holland – Dutch.  The colour of Holland is Orange.
I love the drums at matches.  I really could go there just to listen to them.  I am told it is not good to sit right next to them as they are very loud.  Anyway from where I have been they have been great.
One of the guys from work and his daughter were staunch paid up members of the Roar.  I got to see and talk to him at matches a couple of times.
Getting to and from Suncorp Stadium where they play is easy.  I have taken a bus, train and driven there (parking at someone’s place.  It was generally someone who knew someone who knew someone.)  Our company used to have an office right opposite the Stadium.  I just needed to flash my card to be let through the cordon and park opposite the Stadium. Them were the days.  The Brisbane flood put paid to that.
We saw the Roar in their heyday when they were winning premierships.
The most memorable was when we got in late due to the number of people outside to be processed.  Our seats were behind the goals of the direction the Roar were heading.  No sooner had we sat down than the Roar scored!  In fact they scored three in quick succession, right in front of us.  It was enough to win them the match.  I was a happy little vegemite.
Certainly it has not always been like that.  In fact, in recent times that is the exception.
I have to be there to watch.  Generally, if it is on tv I cannot watch the game.  I guess it means too much to me.  I will check on the scores throughout the telecast, and if we are comfortably leading, watch the rest of the game.
Sometimes soccer can end at 1-0 and folk wonder how that can be exciting.  A lady at work described it as a build-up of tension and release.  I was not going there, but I reckon I do know what they meant (one of the most exciting games of Rugby League I saw was a State of Origin game that ended at 4-2.  There were no tries.  Just penalty goals.  Boy was it tense.  Oh we won, so that made it better.)
Soccer is not every ones cup of tea but I love it.
