Road

I am at a bit of a loose end today. Merril and I are both up early and going out. I feel I have a limited time to put something together for my post today. I have not failed a day unless I have chosen not to write as a mark of respect or was going through something life changing and deep myself. That has only been a couple of times.

Otherwise, I treat it as a discipline to get something down each day. I actually think it is a good habit for me to have. It keeps me on the lookout. Sometimes I just goof off. At other times it is a dictionary word. In those instances, I have no idea what I will be presented with. At times that causes me to reminisce while at other times it causes me to look stuff up so at least I can give the impression I know what I am talking about. Actually, I find that really good as I invariably learn stuff I had no idea about. It is often a real eye opener, and I am in wide eyed wonder.

At other times it is stuff that is important to me. I want to develop. I do not want to be the same today as I was yesterday. My goal is growth. Growth as a person to me is not just a matter of the head but of the heart. Sometimes being better involves what I would prefer to stay away from.

I want to be a well-rounded individual. That to me can take me down roads I would prefer not to go down. But I have found one thing is certain. I always end up the better for it.

What I want to avoid is experiencing only what I think is best for me. I have a plan and travel down roads I know. But roads I know always lead to roads I do not know. I think of Pilgrim in Pilgrims Progress. There was stuff he experienced he sure did not expect. Yet he was the stronger for it.

If I am the stronger for what I experience, I am happy. There is no doubt I will do what I can to avoid rough roads, but I do not know the future. I know only the road in front of me. If that means putting my vehicle into four-wheel drive to get over it then so be it.

I love the journey, but I undertake the journey to reach the goal.
