Risk

It was Merril who chose a word from the dictionary.  I thought it was interesting what she put her finger on.  “Risk”.  I will write on anything that comes up, but I love it when the subject matter seems to have some relevance at the time.
At first I was thinking of all the risks that are faced by everyone every day.  Crossing the road, catching a plane, going for a swim.  All potential risks.  To me, these risks all have an element of probability.  I weigh up with like “what are the chances.”  For many risks the probability of something bad happening is very small.  There are sharks and rips with swimming but that does not stop me from swimming because the figures show that of the millions that go swimming each year, an infinitesimal amount suffer dire consequences.  Very few planes crash considering the number of trips done worldwide every day.
The element of risk that seems relevant to me at the moment is the risk of taking on a new task, and having it fail.  One of my dreams I call “helping those who cannot help themselves.”  It is not something I need to work up.  Not doing it I would find more difficult.
I have been reading up on such things.  A lot of information is out of the US but in my mind the numbers here may be less but the percentages are similar or heading that way.
Widows for example.  It is one of the fastest growing demographics in the US.  800,000 a day join the ranks.  The aging population means that figure is likely to increase.
Growing older myself I realize there is less I can do, and less I want to do.  There were things Merril and I would get in and do ourselves.  More and more we are inclined to want someone else to do what was once easy.
Speaking of risks Merril came across one the other day we did not even know was there.  She went to do the first flush on the water tank but did not realize there was a wasp nest between her and her getting it done.
Next thing I know Merril heading towards me in a hurry.  I soon realized she was not running to me but away from the wasps.  We have got them back though by getting a spay we can use at a distance.  That is not something we enjoy, but nothing is going to say to us you cannot use your place as I am here.
Anyway I am running out of numbers here so I think I will go on with this another time.
All I know is I want to set up a program to once a month assist those that need assistance and who’s world has shrunk and who may have difficulty doing what I take for granted.
It is what I would want for me.  To me a caring society is a giving society.
