Ripple Effect

I guess it is appropriate.  I was considering this morning the term “Back-burner.”  Sort of seems right when I think of the guy at the back burning off.
I was ready to blame him for the orange glow I saw this morning, though to be fair I cannot.  The glow came from far beyond his house.  I suspected it was the lights on the clouds coming from the community beyond him.  First light reinforced that as there was a fog.
I put up a saying by Steve Jobs yesterday that said something like “Something does not need to change the world to be important.”  I reckon I know where he is coming from.  I also think something that changes my world IS important, though it may not be seen as such on a global scale.
I guess I am big on the ripple effect.  Throw a stone into a still pond and the ripples emulate out.  The “Should have gone to Speck Savers” ad makes me laugh when a guy proposes, and the girl thinks he is giving her another rock to throw into the pond.
I reckon we saw the ripple effect in a negative way with the tsunami off Indonesia.  People in Somalia in Africa were affected.  The wave emulated out.
Things are happening but its effects can seem really localized.  I bought a record one time for no other reason other than its title, “Local Hero.”  Reminds me of me really – NOT.  I do think that what I do has the major impact on those closest to me, and it can have a far-ranging impact that I do not know about.
Treating my family and those close to me well for example.  I may only know it has a good effect on my relationships.  But the one close to me may treat someone else well and that someone else treats someone else well.  It goes on.
Sort of like what we call the Butterfly Effect.  Learnt something today.  That term was first used to describe something in chaos theory.  That is, a small localized change can have effects elsewhere.  I really do not know the effects my behaviour can have.  It is best I keep it good, and the effect can be good.
Though the Butterfly Effect does talk about small, seemingly insignificant actions, having large effects.  The thing for me is, I do not know if my small action will have a small or large effect.  It really does not matter.  Positive effects are desirable whether they be small or large.
Whatever the case may be, I think my actions should be based on wanting to do it, rather than doing it because I have an expectation of reward.  Though whatever the motivation, good produces good.
The thing for me is, if I do something not based on it just being a part of me, it can be really hard work.  My inclination is to give up.  It may not be something I want to give up, but it is always hard work.  Sometimes it is smooth sailing and sometimes it is all hands on deck in the stormy weather.
Whatever the case, I want the ripples I produce to have positive impacts on others.
