Ride it out

There is a noom ad on tv saying a guy lost weight.  Nothing new there but I found it interesting how he describes how noom helped him.  He realized there would be times when his motivation was down.  The implication was to just see it through.
Why I found that interesting is that there are just days I am flat.  It seems that when that flatness is combined with what is described as a “bad day” the impulse can be to make bad decisions.  I do remember someone saying, “never make a decision when you are down.”  I have always considered that to be great advice.
Today I was flat, and things were going wrong.  Ok first world problem wrong, but it was enough to discourage me.  Programs were going wrong on the computer, and things continued to go wrong when I spoke to someone about fixing them.  I gave it away.
It is weird but I admit a lot that I do is computer based, and when things go wrong the implications can seem to change everything.  I even followed the classic advice of turning it off and on again.  That did not help.  So I walked away.  For the second time.  I went and had a rest.  I figured that that way nothing I did could make matters worse.
On my return all was good again.  Everything I expected was available.  That showed me clearly something that I reckon can stand me in good stead in the future.
I think that sometimes I just need to ride things out.  It is just a fact of life there are good and bad days.  Sometimes my motivation is full on, and things are going well.  I imagine that is the way it will always be.  But there are other days when things are exactly opposite.  I am inclined to throw my hands in the air and say “what’s the point?”
There seems to be something important I see at that point you.  Just ride it out.  Things will get better.  Only my feelings have changed.  Things may have been going awry but establishing that is just life, I just need to ride it out.  Things turn around.  Feelings go but they come again.
It matters big time to me I don’t make silly decisions based only on the fact I may be down.  I have watched many people at that juncture make bad choices.  Based on what is being experienced it is assumed changes should be made.  Thing is, nothing has really changed.  Sure the feelings are not there, but the reason for heading in the direction chosen has not changed.
That to me is not the time to make changes.  Something that has gripped me in recent times is “these things come to pass.”  They come and they pass.
There are sometimes things that happen that point to change but to me it is important to recognise the things pointing to it, and the other things that happen that mean I just need to ride it out.  One thing I have found to be really helpful is to not make life changing decisions on a whim.  For me it is a case of wait and see.  If change is needed, I will still feel the same way the day after.
Today was a ride it out day.  Things are good again and my motivation is strong again to sit and stare into the middle distance.
