They reckon we live in a really multi-cultural society.  Judging by the types of food on offer I think they are right.
Pizza is Italian.  I must admit that I am partial to pizza.  I remember when Townsville got their first Pizza Hut.  Going there was an occasion.   I was headed there when knocked off my motor cycle.  I ended up in hospital and had a neck brace put on.  Trouble was, when it was time to take it off, I was told it was around the wrong way.
Thai food is my favourite, though if someone just says there is food on offer I am in.  I notice with a lot of the Asian dishes it is the juices that make the difference.  Merril and I were heading someplace in a real hurry and ordered Thai food.  What we did not know is they had made it real spicy.  We could only eat a bit at a time and were there ages consuming what was supposed to be a quick meal.  If I am going to a restaurant my preference is for Thai food.
Admittedly though, there is a really good Chinese restaurant down the road from us. It is mostly frequented for birthdays and special occasions.  They always make an occasion of some ones birthday when they know.  They bring out complimentary ice cream, and usually much to the recipients embarrassment, sing happy birthday.
Merril and I went to an Indian restaurant while we were on holidays once.  I loved their food.  Well it was not theirs, it was ours, but it was in their style.  The person who served us could not have been friendlier, and the experience was such I would definitely go back.
I have had Mexican food once or twice.  I did enjoy it but not as much as the above.  Taco’s don’t count. We have them at home sometimes.  They are nice to eat, and the left overs mixed together are great on toast the next day.
At QUT we could get Tepenyaki (a Japanese dish).  I regarded purchasing that as a bit of a treat. I have had that a couple of times since at different places, but they have never been as good.
There is an American restaurant just down the road.  It seems to be doing really well, and is always heavily booked.  They are a funny lot.  I’ll never forget hearing of a “road kill” restaurant in the US.  Their motto was “from your grill to ours.”
I must admit I am a bit of a sucker for what I think are clever names.  There was, and may still be, a place on the southside of Brisbane called “Captain Chook.”  I have a feeling they served chicken there.
One might say we have a smorgasbord of places we can go, when we choose to.
