Relax

I don’t feel like doing anything.  I should be having a day off anyway.  My body is telling me that is really desirable.  I have my “to do” list, but I am thinking I can do that later.  There is no law that says it has to happen today.
Just as well really, as it is doubtful it will happen today.  I am happy with how far we have come.  We could do nothing and all would be ok.  We just want to take things further, but it is not vital to our goal.  It is desirable to our goal.  We will do stuff, but not today.  Each step is an improvement in our minds.
Driving myself seems too easy to do. As Pope Francis said “Together with a culture of work, there must be a culture of leisure…. To put it another way: people who work must take the time to relax…”  So that is what I am doing – relaxing.  It helps, as my muscles feel tired and I am over it.  Today is like a recharge the batteries day.
I am happy with where we have been and what we have done.  I am also happy with where we are going and what we have planned.  I am also happy to know that is for another day.  Right now is the time for relaxing.
I think I agree with something I read that William Inge said, “the soul is dyed with the colour of its leisure thoughts.”  Seems it comes down to what does leisure mean to me?  Is it time to finally run amok?  Is it time to do what I want and blow you Jack?  Or is it time to recharge the batteries by doing something that has nothing that has to do with what I have been doing?
I think it is the latter.  I think I am the poorer for not being able to relax.  It is no wonder to me that someone said take the time to smell the roses.  That can be literal or figurative.  For me it is figurative.  Knowing my story there would be a bee in the rose and I would spend the rest of the day with a red sore nose and it would cost a life – the bees.
It seems an incredible dichotomy - leisure is earned.  The person who does not know work does not know leisure.  But those who know work need to know more than only work.  So many realize that late in life.  So often if they had their time again there would be a greater balance.
I make it hard for myself though.  I hold up as examples those who work hard and earn a gazillion dollars.  I have to ask though is having a gazillion dollars, worth my family, friends, and leisure.  That is easy for me to ask as I have never had a gazillion dollars.  But you know you can change that by sending me money.  Maybe only one of us can have a gazillion dollars and I pick me.
Work is good but all work is not good.  I need to make sure I have time off.  Time to veg.  I am glad I enjoyed my job but for me, being employed is not just about acquiring leisure time, but enjoying the journey.  All journey’s have ups and downs and bumpy patches but that does not make me not want to journey any less.  And there are always resting places on any long journey.  Where I am today is a resting place.
