Ready for Anything

It seems a bit of a theme is coming through today.
Before we left our unit I was sitting on the balcony watching the passer bys.  Many were walking.  Some walking the dog.  A few were running.  Someone fit looking ran by.  I thought to myself, they could be like an Olympian and this is their training area every time they practice.  That got me thinking it is the unseen stuff done regularly that causes a person to shine when in the spotlight.
I was reading a book around the same time that talked about it being how we live how that will determine our readiness or otherwise for what comes our way in the future.
I do think there is truth in that.  I know that if I were asked to run a marathon right now I am not ready for it.  Yet if 6 months ago I knew I had one to run now I could have prepared and been way more ready to do it.
How I live in the present prepares me or otherwise for what the future holds.
The fact I am thinking that way probably has a lot to do with al the things I have read while on holidays.  I cannot even remember what was being said specifically but I do remember a picture that formed in my mind.
When someone dreams of building a house they with the architect put it on paper.  The plans are very specific.  They enable anyone to be able to do what they need to do (ie electrician, plumber etc) when their time comes.  The plans are a blueprint for getting it right.
Yet (and this is the thing that really stood out to me at the time) unless something is done it remains a dream.  To be commended for an idea is one thing, but to change reality means I have taken a dream and done something with it.
I see it all the time.  On tv and in magazines there are people that dream of being a really good soccer player or cricketer or musician or whatever.  In every case the dreamer needs to determine what it will take to get there.  And the decision is made to count the cost, get rid of distractions and go for it.
Even the person with the house dream determines if they can afford it, and if not, can they jettison some things so they can afford it.  It is a bit embarrassing not to think something through and not be able to finish.
My aspirations and dreams may be simpler, but I want to have them or else it will be the same old same old.  Events could overtake me for which I am totally unprepared.  I’ve heard of being “work fit,” I guess this is looking at being “life fit.”
