Reading, Writing and that's it

I do enjoy reading though I would not say I am a good one.  I did think of doing a speed-reading course, and currently employ a technique I learned from some speed-reading advice.  I would not say it has done me any good except it is harder to lose my place than it was.
One of the reasons I like to read and always have a book going can be found in the following quote by EB White "Books hold most of the secrets of the world, most of the thoughts that men and women have had. And when you are reading a book, you and the author are alone together—just the two of you. A library is a good place to go when you feel unhappy, for there, in a book, you may find encouragement and comfort. A library is a good place to go when you feel bewildered or undecided, for there, in a book, you may have your question answered. I do feel I am in my own private world when I read.  I particularly love it when a book takes me by surprise.  It can be that I consider the writing to be beautiful and become totally absorbed in the word pictures painted.  Or maybe I love the topic and find the author saying better than I ever could what I am feeling at the time, and would like to say.
As the quote says, “books are good company.”  I am not a lone ranger, and love the company of people, but in times when I am alone, I enjoy few things more than reading what I consider to be a good book.  I often find what I think to be a noteworthy combination of words.  I have a file called “sayings,” and I often transfer to what I like to it.
I visit the site and enjoy being inspired by sayings that once inspired me and inspire me again.
