I am considering writing to the ABC 24 and asking if they could have a half hour news segment once a week called something like “Good News stories.”  Stuff that inspires rather than depresses.  I find Australian Story often inspiring and sometimes there are gems to me elsewhere.  They showed a father and son who had worked out how to make glasses from recycled plastic.  They were doing it and making a living out of it.  I love that.
Today I was watching the news and the fires in SA were big.  The phrase came to mind “the straw that broke the camel’s back.”  Yet I do wonder if the definition fits.  It describes how a seemingly small action causes a big response.  I wonder if the phrase is appropriate because the things that have been happening are not small.  Something that can kill a person, whether it be Covid or fires, is not small.
No wonder we use the term “punch drunk.”  It seems to be one thing after the other at the moment.  Relief seems to be getting shorter and shorter.  My life produces stress enough without the big things happening.  Sigh.  But they are happening anyway.
But despite all that is happening something I read I like.  It says “So take heart and take a breath.  Let me lift that heavy weight up off your chest.  Take my hand, I know it's lookin' dark, but when the world falls all around you, I won't let you fall apart.  Take heart.”
Personally I need the reassurance that all is not random.  That it is not just bad luck.  I will do what I reckon is mine to do, but beyond that I can only trust.  Mostly good things happen but bad things happen to.  Good or bad all fits into the mosaic of my life.
To me it is all in the response.  It is easy to thrive on the good thing.  Bad things are harder.  What if’s are harder.  If only’s are harder.  But the fact I might not understand does not mean it is incomprehensible.  Things that are incomprehensible to me often require another perspective.  It does not mean I will like it, but it does mean I will grow from it if I let it.
So much comes down to my response.  They reckon the same sun that melts the snow hardens the clay.  The harder something is, the harder it is to break.
