Raining Cats and Dogs

What a difference a day makes.  Today the sky is looking all blue.  It is cool and a frog is in full voice.
Yesterday was big time grey.  Rain, rain, rain.  We ended up having 130 mls or over 5 inches within 24 hours.  It had started at night.  I could hear it was heavy but had no idea how much rain was falling.
It was raining cats and dogs.  Well not literally.  Cats and dogs were not falling out of the sky. It was heavy enough and long enough for that saying to be applicable.  Apparently, Brisbane had been hammered during the night.  One look at the BOM showed a constant stream of heavy rain heading in that direction.  We were on the edge but received enough thank you.
It was weird but every activity we had planned for the day we or someone cancelled.  Merril was due to go out for a few hours.  She cancelled that as it was unknown if the roads would flood or not.  I was expecting a visitor, and not long before they arrived a warning of a severe thunderstorm came through, so the visit was cancelled.  We were due to have lunch with a friend, but that was called off due to the uncertainty of the roads.
Merril and I had a few things to get from the shop, so we took a drive to see how things were.  The water was up high.  There is one area that seems to flood badly.  It was ok which told us things were not as bad as they could have been.  But I admit I was really wanting the rain to stop because of bad past experiences.
I had intended to work in the yard in the day but that did not happen.  We ended up resting and watching tele and doing a few things we could in the weather.  It was sort of an enforced lay off, but we were willing participants really.  Busy day today though, and by the look of the blue sky the weather cannot be used as a reason not to get into what is planned.
