Push Bikes

Jose mentioned hopping on a push bike and the trip he did nearly killing him.
I joined a gym once and I reckon it was almost the perfect crime.   No one would have known it was murder.  My only other experience like that was having an army guy take me on to get me fit.  I instantly regretted it.
My push bike experience is limited and I depend mostly on memories.  I told my mum I remember everything including being born.  That freaked her out.
Merril and I do have a trike each at the moment.  They are great for balance.  We use them for going for rides in the park near us.  We have also ridden down to the shops on them.  They have a place to carry stuff which is really convenient.  We also take them on holidays with us, though mine at present has a flat tyre.  I found this out on our holiday when one tyre was as flat as a pancake and I pumped it up before going for a ride.  Upon my return a guy on a two wheel bike informed me I had a flat tyre.  When I looked it was as flat as a pan cake again.  I’ll use that as my excuse to explain how difficult riding it seemed to be.
When learning to ride I covered a large distance on my first go.  It augured will for my riding experience.
We lived on a road up a hill.  There was dirt on the road outside my place.  We would ride up the hill and come down at great speed and apply the brakes suddenly in the dirt.  It was heaps of fun.
The husband of a friends’ sister is a push bike person. They look really fit.  He rides kilometres at a time and thinks nothing of it.  I’m fit too.  Fit for purpose that is.  I mean I can sit for ages and it is like I have used no energy at all.
I had a bike I really liked with handle bars I don’t even know the name of.  They were high and u shaped.  I gave that bike to someone who really needed transport at the time.
My dad was funny.  Of course things were always different in “our time.”  I remember him saying to me, “you kids have everything these days.  If we had a bike we were lucky to have wheels.  We used to have to carry our bike everywhere.”
Merril recently volunteered to be at a stop for a bike riding event to raise money for some good cause.  She said she had to be careful to direct only contestants into the stop as there were many other riders on the road that day.  As a nurse her role was also to revive anyone that needed it.  No one needed it.
Many people ride these days and good on them.  They are mostly in groups and dressed for the part.  Often they stop for coffee at some distant place from where they started.  In the car we need to give them a wide birth.  Sometimes this is easy, and at other times we need to wait.
As Merril says when she sees kids out playing “good on them, at least they are out.”  I agree with her, and feel the same way about bike riders.  At least they are out and getting fit and socializing.  I guess the definition of enjoyment implies it is a positive experience.
