Purple

Here it is dictionary day again and my finger fell on a word I have mixed feelings about.  “Purple.”
I like the colour for sure.  Except it is the colour of the Melbourne rugby league football team.  To me they are consistently good.
There was a movie directed by Steven Spielberg called “The Colour Purple” which I really enjoyed.  It starred among others Whoopi Goldberg and featured Danny Glover.  I notice there is a remake of it.
I do associate purple with royalty.  From my understanding it was a hard colour to get, dying material.  It was always associated with rich, as it was hard to produce and expensive.  It may be my imagination, but I do associate kings and queens with the colour purple.
I am a bit of a flag fan and have a multitude at home (in fact Merril made me a couple for my gate before we married).  I have a few of different colour and the purple one I associate with royalty.
In the dictionary it talked about the award the “Purple Heart.”  It was given to US servicemen wounded in action.
Purple is not a colour that has been a big part of my life.  I like it when I see it (except on Melbourne Storm supporters).  But I cannot say it has been front and centre in my life.
I did wander outside before and saw some purple in nature.  The next doors Bougainvillea is purple and is nice to look at.  Though it does remind me of one we had in our yard in Townsville years ago.  It was next to the chook shed and big and scary.
Merril is going to her dads’ place with her sisters and brother today to have breakfast there for the last time.  One of Merril’s sisters arrived here and when I said I was writing about purple she said, “my lips are purple.”  She had said it was 10 degrees colder near the road then here (she may have been exaggerating or she may have not – I will never know).
As I say purple is something I see and have something to do with in passing, but I love the colour and am glad for it.
