Priorities
Something I have been doing lately is working out what matters to me.  Today I read a quote by Carole Hildebrand.  She wrote a book called “On Time.”
The quote was “Most of us have weak decision-making muscles. We do not realize what it means to make a real decision. We fail to recognize the force of change that a truly congruent, committed decision makes.
The word "decision" comes from Latin roots, with de meaning "down" or "away from" and caedere meaning "to cut." Therefore, a decision means cutting from any other possibility. A true decision means you are committed to achieving a result and cutting yourself off from any other possibility.
Committed decisions show up in two places: your calendar and your bank account. No matter what you say you value, or even think your priorities are, you have only to look at last year's calendar and bank account to see the decisions you have made about what you truly value.”
I find that interesting as I can see it in me.  Years ago, I was given a “belly button warmer.”  It said it was for the guy who had everything.  The truth is I do not have everything, but I am content with what I do have.
They talk there about looking to the calendar to see commitments.  We are not good at keeping a calendar but more and more we are noting appointments, so we do not forget.  But the fact is I just need to think about the places I have been and the things I have done to realize where my commitments lie.
Add to that my bank account.  How I spend my money is a good indication as to what I prioritise.  I do not believe though how things were is the way they will always be.  I know that the way I am thinking at the moment will bring about a change in my calendar and my expenditure.
I am ok with that.  I am interested in assisting people where I can (giving time) but I feel in recent times my focus has become clearer.  To that end it will be interesting to me to see what impact that has.  I am a great believer in “what you can see you can do.”  My vision may be getting blurrier, but it is also becoming clearer.
