Preparation

As most are aware I get a weekly email from someone that contains three sayings from him, two quotes from others and one question.  Often, I read something there that I give thought to. 
Today is no exception.  It contains a quote from a record producer called Tick Rubin.  Apparently, he has been successful in producing hits.  What he said was, “if you need 10 of something, make 30.  Then pick the best.”
I guess that rings a bell with me as I am an “over the top” person.  By that I mean I really like to overwhelm.  Just winning is good.  But to win overwhelmingly helps to remove the stress that may be associated with something.
For me as Joe Average that means only one thing.  Over the top preparation.  For me it is ideal not to just to know or have enough, but to know or have enough and plenty left over.
That is not easy.  I was talking to someone about reparation during the week.  He made what I believe is a valid point.  I had said it is all in the preparation, and he said that is true of everything.  I reckon he is right.
I had to do something around the home last week.  It was not something I was looking forward to (it involved power tools).  I spent ages preparing.  Measuring, marking, and clamping.  When it came time to do, it took seconds.
There were many benefits in preparing right.  I was able to iron out bugs and do what I needed to do in a safe environment.  It was good for me.  The time spent in preparation meant I discovered and corrected errors and what I did cost me what I was prepared for rather than more due to errors along the way.
So what was said about making 30 and picking the 10 best I adhere to.  I totally believe any victory on the field or on the field of life, is a manifestation of the preparation.
