Pragmatic

I find it interesting how some things never seem to change.  There was a show I watched a few times on tv.  I stopped watching it as it seemed week after week they had people on it who prided themselves on a fair- minded view.  Yet it was obvious the audience was stacked.  What was presented represented a particular line of thought and anyone who had a contrary view was ridiculed.
I recently watched it again and it was obvious to me nothing had changed.  What was presented sounded good, but practice always showed it does not work for the general population.  Agendas were being pushed that had been proven to produce destruction.
It made me think of a word I had never considered before.  I thought I must be pragmatic.  I had some idea of what I thought it might mean but I looked up the dictionary and decided it is what I am.  “Dealing with things sensibly and realistically in a way that is based on practical rather than theoretical considerations” (Dictionary.com) “concerned with practical considerations or consequences, having a practical point of view. (thefreedictionary.com)
I have a problem.  I know the world has problems.  My problem is I do not agree with trying unproven theories on humanity.  It seems many people die.  I think of communism.  In theory a great idea.  All men equal.  Trouble was millions died.  Dictatorship.  A friend of mine said the best form of government is a benign dictator.  I agree.
But benign dictators give way to troublesome dictators.  It is being played out before my eyes in Europe right now.  Great at destruction but not so good at building –except for their own kingdom.
Democracy to me is floored.  Under it we see an incredible polarization.  It seems to be happening in many major democracies.  It ends up that one or two people hold the balance of power for things they many have no real knowledge or passion about.  But they have influence.
When I headed up an organization, I wrote the constitution in such a way as to set the presidency for four years.  My whole aim was to ensure a bad leader had a limited time.  Good leaders are good but so often there are bad leaders.
I personally believe what is being employed in the west at the moment is the most insidious of all.  It looks good but it seems what is proposed is never allowed to be questioned.  To me sensible questions are not tolerated.  The person asking is made out to be unpatriotic and uncaring and yet so often they are really the most caring of all.
I admit I am concerned for humanity.  Many hear only and follow the sound of the piper.  Lemmings running with purpose over a cliff.
Yet for all my misgivings I hold to a benign dictator and an awakening of people and acknowledging of having been duped. The leader has been the same since before the beginning of time and is not about to change now.
