Power

There is no doubt about it, power is a big thing for some people.  It is not like winning is the important thing, it is like winning is the only thing.
Our system is built big time on fairness.  I think it is why we say they will have their day in court.  The expectation seems to be that there they will be able to prove their innocence.
I am really wondering these days if it is more a case of guilty until proven innocent, rather than innocent until proven guilty.  We are fond of saying “trial by media.”  A picture is painted that we are supposed to accept.
I really do not know if people are innocent or guilty, but Jeffery Rush was accused of something.  He has estimated his earnings plummeted for a year for hundreds of thousands to $50,000.  Endorsements stopped.  Not because anything was proven but there was a rush to be dis-associated with any hint of scandal.  Cliff Richards was accused but it seems the accusation did not stick.  As I say they may be guilty, but I do not want to judge anything before the time.  Believe it or not, I could be wrong.
I have mentioned before a doctor that took years to clear his name, but his reputation was ruined.  That does not seem fair to me.
I have been thinking about this, because so often what I aspire to is fairness.  It seems to be what our system is built on, and most people seem to want the same thing.  However I know there are those who don’t.  Basically they want what they want, and blow anyone who dares to stand in the way.
Why this seems to matter is there are times I only want what I consider is best for all.  I need to realize though there are also those who only want what is best for them.  When that is the person pulling the strings, I am in trouble.  All they need to do is pick off opposition one at a time, until their position is consolidated.
My position may be flawed and faulty, and it may need others to clean it up and clarify it, but there is a general feeling of working together to achieve a goal that is good for all.  Much medicine has been invented this way.  Our sanitation and electrical grid are built on people working together for the common good.
It is when someone works for their own good, hurdles are experienced.  People that way inclined attract those of similar mind, and manipulate others to achieve their own ends.  It is good for them, and some others, but not for the majority.  Acting surreptitiously something can be done, but acting in the open a person becomes a target.  History is littered with examples of people who were only in it for themselves.
I am responsible for me.  I observe and make calls based on what I see.  Enough of us working together to achieve the same end can effect change.  Hopefully for the better.
