Plodding

It is interesting to me how on any given day different things inspire.  Sometimes what inspires is not inspirational in itself, but it really is a part of life.  A big part.  Probably the biggest part.
Plodding.  Just keeping going when I do not feel like it.
I received an email that said the following.  Ok the working out is not something I do, but I know I do write, and I do plod.
"It's not that hard on any given day, but the trick is you can't skip days. Your workouts can be reasonable and still deliver results—if you don't skip days. Your writing sessions can be short and the work will still accumulate—if you don't skip days. As long as you're working, you'll get there."
Even looking at its definition it is not something I say, “oh boy I want that.” “To move or walk heavily or laboriously; trudge.”  They say that life is 10% inspiration and 90% perspiration.  I do not know about percentages, but I do know that between the initial inspiration and final fulfilment, is generally a lot of plodding.
That does not negate the perhaps worthiness of the final goal, but the reality I have found is there is effort involved.  The goal always inspires but the steps in achieving it always involve a measure of plodding.
To me it is the plodding times that determine how much I really want the goal.  For as long as I can remember I have had trouble dealing with “flash in the pan.”  Personally, I have been there and done that and as a result not achieved what I set out to achieve.  I have seen it in another member of the family to.
By the same token I have also set out to achieve something and done it.  That feels a whole lot better.
I do think one of the keys is what was mentioned in the email.  Not missing a day.  The same person has also said in another spot, everyone misses the occasional day, but it is not a habitual thing.  That has been me.
I have made a point of not being such a stick in the mud that missing a day signifies the undoing of all I have set out to achieve.  But I do know that something like that becomes a slippery road when it becomes habitual.
I am a part of the human race.  Everyone I know makes mistakes.  But when I want something, I will turn mistakes into lessons and move on.
