Plastic Plants

Plastic plants.  We do have a few.
Plastic plants are really handy to put in places we don’t want to water, or it is best not to.  We don’t want to water where our garden tools are, but we do want it to look nice. We have some plastic hanging plants there.  Having them in mulch makes them look real.  They would look better if they were not regularly blown down.
We do not want to water in our shed which has carpet down.  We have some plastic plants in there.  We have some plastic plants in our sitting area along with some real ones.  We water (the real ones) very carefully.
I am so not into watering.  I water because I have to rather than want to.  Generally something being dead tells me it is not suited to no watering.  We do water, but definitely prefer it to rain.
Most of our outside garden consists of real plants.  One is a tree that is reputed to grow only so high in a garden.  My question is “how does it know it is in a garden?”  That tree is literally reaching for the sky.
Merril is into roses.  I love them too.  I don’t know where I got it, but I was given a white flowered plastic rose on a stem.  Using sticky tape I attached it to a real red flower producing rose.  I knew a white flower on a red rose would attract Merril’s attention and further investigation.  It did, and I lived to tell the story.
I have a dilemma with plastic plants though.  Lately it has been real windy.  Leaves and seeds have been dislodged from plastic plants.  To me, that’s it.  It is not just a case of “not going back” but a case of “not growing back.”
We have a couple of plastic plants in pots in our shed.  They look attractive and the leaves are very long.  On one, a leaf was somewhere other than attached to the plant. I suppose I could painstakingly attached the leaf back to the plant.  I could, but I don’t and I won’t.  For me it is the end of the story for that leaf.  The good thing though, is the plant still looks complete and is attractive.
We have hanging plastic succulents in clear bowls that we picked up from Aldi.  They look so real and we are not telling anyone they are not.  You never read that.
Our longest serving plastic plant was a hanging one we put in a pot out the front.  We put it on a trellis.  The thing is, there is way less of it now than there was.  It keeps losing leaves.  I find them in the garden everywhere.  I deal with them on an as needs basis.  The problem is, plastic is supposed to last 400 years.  I really don’t have that long to wait for it to disintegrate, so in the bin it goes.
I definitely prefer real plants, but is seems there is a place for many things.  Plastic plants have their place in our home, and they seem to have their own set of issues to deal with.
