Plaques

CliThis is article Three Hundred and Ninety something.  I did not keep it hidden when I reached a years’ worth, which was my original goal.  I have been thinking about milestones to celebrate now.  Something ending with 50 or the 100 mark seems to be popular.  25 is also seen as significant but I think I will just have my own party on the inside for that one.
Mementoes of significant events seem to be everywhere.  It is probably why the plaque saying “On this spot, in 1994 (or whenever), nothing happened” is so popular.
Merril and I often keep mementos of our visits away.  Mostly it is a rock or piece of wood.  It reminds us of where we were, what we were doing at the time, and the whole visit.
I was watching the British guy that does walks.  He was walking around Geelong.    He came to a park and found a plaque that talked about this being near the spot where a bushranger was caught and captured.  He had given the whole background to the story and then highlighted the spot where this local “gentleman” bush ranger, had made his last stand.
In England they made a plaque for those who died a world war 1 (they could not see it in person).  Sometimes plaques are presented instead of awards or trophies.  They normally have text describing what it is about, and the date.
Probably everyone has them and I do.  Memento’s for which there is no plaque or anything physical, or any evidence.  They are just remembrances of events that were milestones in life.  Sometimes they signified a major change of direction.  At other times they were just events that stick in the mind, and were unusual.
Merril and I going to an award ceremony stands out for me.  It was a chance for us to get all done up.  That happens really rarely, and we both looked real spiffy.  Not only that, there were famous people there.  To be in the same room was memorable.
Getting married was significant and signified a major change of direction.  Without being tight, we tried to keep our marriage ceremony simple.  Merril bought a wedding dress which she looked good in, and we both liked.  After getting married at our new place, the reception was at the Caboolture RSL.  Holding a reception was not something they normally did, but they went the second mile to make our experience good.  Merril was close to tears with what they volunteered to do.  We were happy, and it seems those who attended were too.
There are other things that have happened, that are like a plaque in my mind, but probably are not even remembered by others involved.  Like when I bowled out an opening batsman first grader.  I actually planned what I was going to do, and it worked.  Love it when a plan comes together.
I also remember vividly when a hockey ball was heading at speed towards the face of someone who was totally unaware.  It was not the sort of thing I had time to think about.  I intercepted the ball with my hockey stick and went on as if nothing had happened.  It was only that I was walking by and overheard someone telling the guy what had happened.
Things happen.  Sometimes they have national significance, and sometimes personal significance.  The common denominator is, they have significance.  Some things have a physical plaque.  Others are just a memory.  Either way they were significant and are remembered.ck here to edit.
