Planting

Well today is planting day. 
We had things to do in the morning which we did but we had in mind to visit a fruit tree joint to get plants to plant.
Once our morning activities were done, we headed to a fruit tree nursery in Kallangur to get some fruit trees.  We have prepared a place for them and dream of getting our own fruit off them in the fullness of time.
There is a dwarf mandarin tree, and an avocado tree.  A larger but small mango tree, and lemon tree.  We also purchased a lemonade tree (for a pot) and a bigger mandarin tree (we love mandarins).
Anyway, today is the day to see them planted.  They are young trees, and the first fruit will be picked to encourage better fruiting later on.  We also want to put some slow-release fertilizer in the holes we make.
We are led to believe it is a good time to plant such things as they are dormant so they do not have to battle heat and bugs that go with it.
We have a mate that does not recommend avocado’s based on he and his wife’s bad experience.  The last time the plant did well for three years and then carked it.  We know we are taking a chance, but we will see how it goes.
The lemonade tree is a bit of a novelty for us.  And putting it in a pot will be an interesting exercise.
I guess we have learned.  We have a couple of fruit trees already, but they are too close together.  We are spacing these apart to maximize circulation and sun exposure.  The place they are going is the best at our place for sun.  In summer our place tends to be oasis like which is great for us but not so good for some trees.
Anway we are ready to give this a go.  It is sort of a bonus on the road of a lot of work we are doing in the yard.  Ask us in five years’ time if it was successful.
