Pictures

I reckon some things I gotta do, some things I want to do, and some things I think I am put together to do.  Hopefully the things I am put together to do are the things I want to do.
The things I gotta do seems to be the lot of everyone, though some things differ.  Like I don’t need to look after my kids as I do not have any.  But for many it is a fact of life.  It is a poor substitute, but it is like us needing to look after our fish.  We spend a lot of time just enjoying him, but we realize we are responsible for the quality of his water, ensuring he gets fed or just keeping an eye out for him.  It is not something we can take or leave.  If we want him to thrive, it is what we do.
I gotta eat.  I gotta rest.  These are not things I can take or leave all the time but things I need to do if I am to thrive.
I can even ensure the things I feel I gotta do are things that set my wife and I up for what we perceive will be the future.  I take out insurance.  I see to it we have a roof over our head.  I work to make sure we have enough to make ends meet.
Though to me doing what I gotta do and what I want to do is only part of my story.  The thing I am put together to do I feel needs to be my priority.  I can drift through life though.  Facing each challenge as it comes with no thought beyond what is in front of me.
Yet from my experience doing what I gotta do only, does not guarantee satisfaction or an ability to face what life may send my way.  I reckon I was fairly fortunate in that I enjoyed my work and was a part of a good culture.  But so often it seems that is the exception and not the rule.
I reckon it was only having a sense of what I was put together to do that enabled me to face what I considered hard times and remain at peace when confronted with the whys.  I do not think I have been alone in not understanding.  In wondering how what looked totally bad to me could somehow be good for me.
But my life is like a jigsaw.  Sometimes a scene being put together contained a lot of blue.  But I know even if I find the blues something I want to get over in a hurry I need them to make up the whole picture and when the blue is absent the absence is glaring and the picture incomplete.
For me the picture is only complete when I do what I gotta do, and want to do, and my priority is what I was put together to do.
