Persistance

We have three crows that visit us.  Father, Mother, child.  We feed them.  Sometimes it is an egg, and at other times it is stuff that includes vegetables.  That is probably why the Indian Minors go to that spot too.
The crows do not like them there.  They chase them away, but no sooner is their back turned than the Indian Minors scurry to the spot again.  They will be chased several times with the same result.  Eventually the crows give up. And the minors are free to explore and eat.
What really struck me about the Minors was their persistence.  Their never give up attitude.  I reckon they would be forgiven for thinking “there’s nothing to see here.”  But they don’t give up.  Their opposition does though, and if there are any rewards for the reaping the Minors do.
That got me thinking about persistence.  There are some jobs I do where the result is almost instant.  Change is obvious.  For other things there is no apparent change immediately.  It is only by looking at the same thing down the track that it is obvious a change has occurred.
In some places change is resisted.  To move say, a piece of furniture, it needs to be done a foot at a time, so no one really notices.  Sometimes though, the resistance comes from me.  I like the way things are done.  They have been done that way for years.  Never mind the new way might be better.  I resist it.
If I am the one though, that recognises change is needed then persistence is also needed.  In many cases I really cannot have change without persistence and it may not last.  At the first sign of difficulty I am likely to pack my bags.  But if I believe in the change, it may take persistence to experience the best rather than settling for better.
We were in Office Works today.  Once a catalogue in the post was the best.  Then it was seen to be having an online presence as well.  Now it is an app. That means I can shop and order online and come in and pick it up.  Once a catalogue was the best.  Now it is not.  An app is seen as the best.  To set up an app though takes persistence.  There are no doubt people that are really good at it, but to get all the products and stores and contingencies online takes time and persistence.
I really need persistence too.  Stamp collecting has been a great example for me.  I have thousands.  They need sorting and putting in an order that means I can see the collection grow, without having to change up everything.  I have a goal in mind.  It is better since I started, but I still have a way to go.  I am only going to get there with persistence.
I am fond of saying I am ok seeing changes made to what I have done, if people are willing to put in the hard yards to do it.  Mostly they are not.  It may require many things, but chief among them is persistence.  For a lot of people that is a bridge too far.  It is a case of wanting it and wanting it now.
I wish the Indian Minors were not there. But they are, and their persistence pays off.  Bit like for me really.  Persistence pays off.
