It’s funny how things grow on me.  Well not literally grow on me.  I do not mean I look at my wrist and think “hmmm a tree has taken root there.  I had better deal with it before it gets too big.”  But I do become accustomed to stuff.  For ages I have felt people is where it is at.  More and more I am feeling that.  I know I may be repeating myself, but I reckon I am around the age where that is what happens anyway.
I think it has probably been brought on by the books I have been reading, the people I have been meeting and the things I have been doing.
I think I am ok at relating to all ages, but it seems I have ha special soft spot for older people.  There is no doubt in my mind old age is over-rated.  As someone said to me today “I am vertical.”  And a good thing too I say - except when I want to be horizontal.  Not being able to be that way when I want to be, would be a real hassle I reckon.
I reckon my taste in music transcends ages.  The song Merril and I regard as “our song” is pretty rocky really.  Ok it is not heavy metal or scream metal but it is not traditional Mongolian singing either (we saw an episode of Spicks and Specks recently that had a Mongolian singer.  Fair dinkum I did not know such singing was possible.  It was melodious and guttural at the same time.  Then it would soar to unexpected heights.  Blew me away)
I also saw some singing the other day that reminded me of traditional American Indian singing.  As well I met some south sea islanders with flowers in their hair.  It was not just ornamental but traditional.
It really made me think there are so many ways people express themselves.  I can so easily fall into the trap of thinking my way is the way.  Yet each culture expresses themselves differently.
I was watching some younger people singing and dancing the other day and I was wrapped.  Oh to have that sort of energy again.  I do most of my dancing on the inside these days.
The thing for me is it does not matter if someone is young or old.  From this culture of another.  We all have the same aspirations and hopes.  We all know joy and disappointment.
It seems we have more in common than what separates us. Every nation and tribe it seems to me, brings something to the table.  Every culture has good and bad.  The good stuff I cherish.  The bad stuff in any culture I want nothing to do with.
