Peddling

Maybe it is just a too much coffee thing, but I really liked what I just heard someone say on Landline.    It was a story on horse therapy that is being used in the Kimberlie’s to combat the high suicide rate there.  One fella they talked to that is helping with the program said something like “I had a brother do it, and an uncle”
Something someone said in another story sort of dove tailed for me.  He was saying how much he liked the bush.  His upbringing had been hard, but he was not bitter and twisted.  He said he could recognise a look because he had experienced it himself.  What he said was some people experience so many emotions they end up feeling nothing.
What I liked that was said in the horse story was “we need to be peddlers of hope.”  Sometimes it seems what I do is not a mighty torrent thing.  It does not enjoy success based on overwhelming.  To me “peddlers” sums it up.  It is the selling of a good from place to place.  She sold horse therapy at our place.  It is here a little and there a little.  Basically, a whittling away thing.
The word peddle, was more common once than it is now (now it is what I do on my push bike.  Once it was a lifestyle thing.)  It was a term commonly used to describe salesmen who went from town to town selling mostly small goods.  In this the internet age I do not think it needs to be small goods, but it is promoting something one at a time.
To me it is one of the reasons why in customer service, it is so important the customer has a good experience.  I may be just one person, but I am really 15 people.  Those 15, each are 15 people and so on.  So if my experience is bad, I will tell those I know to stay away and they in turn will tell others the same thing.  It can really snowball.
Maybe in this instance peddling is a bit like some of my tasks.  They can seem huge.  Despite hours spent on it, there is no perceptible change.  It is only in looking at it down the track differences are seen.  I am so not into jobs like that.  I had to move dirt, clean, put in a drain and cover with dirt again.  The object was to stop flooding.  A neighbour across the road commented on how long I was doing it.  It was not fun, but it worked.  It took ages but it was worth it.  At first no change was perceptible.  Eventually it was.  Ok, in this case it went back to how it looked, but those that know know.  Particularly my neighbour, as their place does not flood any more.
Peddling goes on all the time.  I get snippets and make up my mind generally on a body of snippets.  I for one want to peddle hope.  I just know that bad stuff is peddled, and I do not need more.  There does not seem to be enough peddling hope.
