peace

I had a boss who would say “tell me why you are doing so & so” and just saying “because it has always been done that way” is not good enough.  I think I know where the boss was coming from.  I state stuff.  It does not mean that I am right, but if I am not, I need it shown to me through reasoning not only straight declaration.
I have been thinking about peace lately.  What has led to this is that both on a global scale and a personal scale, peace matters.  I can see two types of peace.  There may be more that I will need to hear about.  One peace I call “appeasement peace” and the other I call “fighting peace.”
Appeasement peace to me is summed up in a phrase often heard “anything to keep the peace.”  To me it is a give up peace.  The other entity wants something bad and we don’t, so we give them what they want.  This can lead to bondage for us.  In the short term it doesn’t, but it does in the long term - unless we embrace the other kind of peace.  Chamberlain coming back from Germany declared “peace for our time.”  Wikipedia says “It is primarily remembered for its ironic value.”
Then there is what I call “fighting peace.”  This is very unpopular.  Sometimes it seems to me we need to stand up for what we believe.  It is fraught.  There are no guarantees and there may be a cost, but to me it beats meek submission.
It is not easy.  As someone said “If it were easy everyone would be doing it.”  It can be a lonely place, but to me it is better to be true to oneself than to be “in” for its own sake.
Where does this leave me?  On a global scale I do not like what I see.   On a personal level I will state things the way I see things, possibly to my own detriment. Whatever the outcome it will mean war, though my aim is peace.
Lol Them’s fighting words.  I find it easier to talk tough than to be tough.
