Ownership

10/12/2018

The concept of ownership was reinforced to me big time recently.
There was something I so did not want to do.  My dad passed away about four years ago, and he had a display cabinet full of stuff I felt needed to be moved to where I am.
It involved being really careful.  It was not like what was in it could be thrown around and dealt with.  The items were delicate, and needed to be treated in that manner.  The items were mostly glass and the cabinet was glass. It had to go from where it was, to our place.  Really, my worst nightmare.  I needed to ensure I had boxes for the job, and paper.  The cabinet then had to be moved in a trailer we have, put in place, and the items installed.
With my brothers help we got the cabinet onto the trailer.  I could not finish the tie down, as I did not know where our bag was with ropes, cushions, blankets and a spider.  It turned out it was in the car I was using the whole time.  I did not know that, so I searched high and low.
That was it for that day.  Merril was willing to help, and so the next day we collected the trailer and completed the process in reverse.  After we unloaded the cabinet from the trailer and put it in place, Merril did a thorough clean of both the cabinet and the items in it.  Most of the stuff is fine glass ware and I am totally nervous handling it.  Not Merril though.
Merril volunteered to clean what needed it (only everything really).  She not only cleaned the cabinet, but also the glass stands inside it and all the stuff for it.  Man she did so much better than I could have done.  I could have had it look good.  She had it look exceptional.
I knew Merril could display it so much better than I could, so I asked if she would load the cabinet up.  I feel I totally understand the saying “return to the scene of the crime” now.  Ok, no crime was committed, but I wow often at the job done.  Merril often pauses in front of it, and moves something a couple of mls so stuff lines up.  There will come a day when we walk straight past it, and not give it a second thought, but today is not that day.
This to me, is where the ownership thing comes in.  I really feel that I should not declare a dream, unless I am either willing to do it myself, or I have others on board to assist.  Fortunately for me my brother and Merril were willing to assist.  The result is much better than what I could have achieved on my own.
I am happy because the goal was achieved.  Merril is happy because she could express her creativity.  My brother is happy because the space freed up could be used for a book shelf that looks perfect for the space.  We all owned, benefited from, and used our talents in what needed doing.  All in all, I guess we are happy campers.
