Overwhelm

I feel like just when I am getting to know plaster board a wall goes up.  It is not something I have worked with much in the past.  A couple of things I have learned about though is it is good to work with and bog up and paint over mistakes and everyone is none the wiser.
I did learn that when we were hanging pictures.  Sometimes I drilled and hit a support I did not know was there.  Most pictures we supported with flange screws.  Supports meant there was no space for the flange to open up and grip.  It meant moving to the right or left.  The hole was filled in, sanded and painted over and it was like it was never there.
Not knowing the product that well though I was very much on my guard that I did not over do it.  I did not want to muscle up only to have a huge chunk dislodge.  It was important to both of us that strength was combined with gentleness to get a good result.  We are happy.
I have a couple of structures around the place that are not built for strength but as a visual deterrent.  There is a drop at the side of our car port.  I have built a wooden structure.  It is pretty wonky.  The object though is not to stop people from falling, it is to stop them going there in the first place.
One thing I did decide though when hanging pictures was I would rather have too much than too little.  Too little I find really stressful.  There is a constant wondering, “will it fall or won’t it.”  I do not like people getting too close or handling the item.  If they do, they may be in for a rude shock.
That is like most things for me.  I like to overwhelm.  Overwhelming means the job is done and I can move on.  Anything less and I am always looking back, wondering.  The worst-case scenario is the worst happens.
Overwhelm does raise a question for me though.  I only hear of overwhelm.  I have never heard someone say “I’m whelmed.”  It is always overwhelmed.  I was amazed when looking at images of overwhelmed though.  In the vast majority of cases it showed people who things were too much for.   That is not where I am coming from,.  I am coming from like an overwhelming victory.  Like Souths beating Manly.  Or the D’s beating the Bulldogs.  All things being equal they were won early.
Overwhelming often means going further than “just.”  I mean if it is just then I will take it.   A win is a win.  Yet when it is in my power to do something, I will make sure there is no shadow of doubt.
Merril and I tend to be incredibly fussy, and I reckon that is a good thing.  We share a confidence that when something is left to the other person it will be done well. When mistakes happen which they inevitably do we know it was not a matter of negligence.  We both give it our best shot.  As long as we have given something our best that is the best we can do.
