Opportunity May Only Knock Once

A couple of times recently I have heard it said, “just do it.”  Like the Nike logo I suppose.  I do think they are on to something.
It is not a case of just doing something wrong.  That sort of thing is to be resisted and help sought.  There are things just not to do no matter how often we are inclined to do it.  I guess it is called self-control.  It is something that seems to be lacking big time at the moment.  People do things in a moment that changes lives for the worse forever.
But there are things that should just be done.  It is not a time for debate.  Not a time to put it off to what is thought may be a more convenient time.  There are times when there is an urgency.
I did recently put something off I really felt needed to be done asap.  I found out the person concerned was taken to hospital around the time I really felt I should visit them.  I tend to be more instant in my response these days.  I guess it is a case of once bitten twice shy.  That does not mean I automatically want to do what I know to do.  It I just I prefer a good outcome.
A couple of times recently I have really felt someone was in need and I was the one to stand in the gap.  I guess I am bit tenacious.  I won’t let it go.
Honestly, I reckon that is a good thing.  It is not like it is evil intent.  It is wanting the best for another and being willing to do what it takes - behind the scenes.  As anyone who knows me knows I am not one to try to force anything on anyone.  But sometimes it is incredibly evident that the path being walked is destructive.  The person themselves may not see it, but it is obvious to anyone who cares.  It seems sometimes the help is surreptitious.  More is gained when the receiver has no idea – rather than broadcasting help.
So the saying, “just do it” I reckon has merit and sometimes opportunity only knocks the once.  Better safe than sorry I reckon.
