Opportunities

I reckon I have said it heaps. “now’s my chance.” I thought of that because I was looking up the word “Opportunity.” It seems to me if things were different, I might just as well be saying “now’s my opportunity.”
I thought it was also interesting (to me anyway) what else people looked up. The other Mars Rovers were mentioned. Spirit and Curiosity. The naming of them made sense to me. The exploration of the planet demanded a Spirit of adventure and what was there was a matter of curiosity. The name Opportunity was apt. We did because we could.
There is the saying “Opportunity knocks.” To me it is like a door that opens perhaps for a brief period which means I can do what I want to do. So often it seems the opening disappears and that is why we say “strike while the iron is hot.” I had a laugh. Someone put on their Facebook page, “when one door closes another opens. Apart from that it is a good car.”
The thing to me about opportunity is so often it is a limited window without guarantee of being available again. I need to take my chance when the opportunity is there. I really do not know the intricate details of my life. All I have is now and often now is the chance I have. It is not safe to presume. “Oh it will come up again.” Sometimes yes and sometimes no. It is definitely yes if it is there now.
There is the saying that we create our own luck. I term it differently but it is the truth to me. When I really want something I am on the look out for it. I stand less chance of missing it due to inattention.
I reckon sometimes opportunities come in disguise. If I am not looking for it I will miss it. I will see it for what it is when it is past rather than before me. Too late then.
I once picked a good car because I was looking for something and I saw the opportunity. My mechanic said to me “buy it before he changes his mind.”
I find it too easy to waste opportunities though. It is like it is what I long for and take it with both hands and then it becomes familiar and I do not cherish it as I should. I was thinking about a motor cycle I owned. I bought it brand new. When I finished with it, it was a wreck. I sold it to a guy who was going to do it up who died of cancer before that happened.
The good thing to me is that often grasping an opportunity leads to more opportunities. Learning an instrument creates an opportunity to have people appreciate your talent. It then can led to playing in a band. That can led to touring and becoming rich and famous.
One thing leads to another but it all starts with a simple application to a task and recognising opportunities when they come along.
