Onions Onions Everywhere

Yesterday was Onion day.
We are involved in a Bunnings Sausage sizzle and there is a hep of preparation for such an event.  Among other things Merril and I prepared the onions.  We had spied out better value than last time and had arranged with the supplier to pick them up on a certain day.  30kgs worth.  He said he would have them on a certain day and he did - all set in bags in a trolley and he helped us put them in the car.
Merril and I had decided that Thursday was to be “Onion Day.”  We cut them in half, peeled them and put them in bags in eskies.  We have a system worked out.  I cut and peeled them (Merril did so to avoid waiting at times)  And Merril put then in a slicer and then into bags into eskies.
I know that I get all seemingly emotional at such times.  I can cry a lot.  I was out to avoid that.  So I had a fan on my face, a mask and swimming goggles over my eyes.  That was great except the googles kept fogging up.  I decided after each bag (there were 8) I would take off the googles and go and get like an eski and clean it out or something.  After the fourth bag we had a break and that did the trick.
I thought Merril must be super woman or something.  There she was with no face covering at all dealing with the onions. Not me.  I felt overdressed but it did the trick.
I think it took less time this time than the last (which was our first).  Probably because we had a system worked out. When all was ready and packed, we had a clean up of all the scraps and then took the onions to a cold room and the bag of skins and rubbish to our church bin.  We had both been wearing gloves to avoid the potential smell of onions on our hands for days.
That was not all we did that day, but we were glad when we could walk away from it after the job was done.
