One thing at a time

It is interesting how thoughts can have impact.  Like focusing on one thing at a time.  There is a time for doing up a list and deciding on priorities but having done that forgetting everything else while I do a particular tasks.
I just know how deflating it is to say I will do something, but when it comes time to do it goof off and make something way longer and perhaps way less than it could be.  This is not a micro-manage myself thing but being very clear from the start what I hope to achieve then giving myself wholeheartedly to that thing.
I guess this has been a learn from experience thing.  I know when my heart is not in something.  Yet so often it is a push through thing.  While I may never be excited by the prospect of doing what I need to do, sometimes it is a grit my teeth and do it thing.  I find that even the most mundane task and what I really would prefer not to do becomes something that I want to do well.  There is no doubt I am glad when it is over, but I know I am not glad if I have not done it to the best of my ability.
Another may certainly be able to do it better, but when that other is not available or it is unreasonable to ask another, I do what I do not want to do to the best of my ability.
I guess it takes a knowing oneself too.  There are times I may not be well, and my best intentions need to be subject to the reality of the situation.  Although I am one to strike while the iron is hot most tasks are subservient to the needs of the doer.
It is funny how at work I could think something really had to be done now and I would get sick and find it was there for me to take up when better.  Things that really needed to be done within a certain timeframe were done, while the majority of things could wait.
It is true not everything can wait but I want to be really careful I don’t think I am the only one who can do it.  Being the only one who can do it is a personal decision thing rather than a joint task orientated thing.
I guess that is where the old “do it now” saying comes from.
