One Liners

It seems to me that often one liners get a bad rap.  I actually do not mind them as they often say succinctly what may be a complex issue.
Advertisers have depended on them for years. “melts in your mouth, not in your hand.” “Have a break, have a kit kat.”  We are fond of saying “I just want milk that taste like real milk.”  It seems to me the best ads are the ones that have memorable one liners and I can remember the company.  There are those that for the life of me I cannot remember who was responsible, but I can remember the line.
There are other one liners that are just clever to me and often make me laugh.  “my father has the heart of a lion and a lifetime ban from the zoo.” “The early bird might get the worm, but the second mouse gets the cheese.” “I want to die peacefully in my sleep, like my grandfather.. Not screaming and yelling like the passengers in his car.”
Some are just straight inspirational.  One I hold to is an all two-letter quote “if it is to be, it is up to me.” “Whether you think you can or you think you can’t, you’re right.” – Henry Ford.  “Life is 10% inspiration and 90% perspiration.” “Live as if you were to die tomorrow. Learn as if you were to live forever.”
I really hold to “never make a decision when you are down.”  My thinking is how I feel now is not necessarily how I will feel in a few days.  If I still feel the same way in a few days I will let my changed decision be known then.  It seems old fashioned, but I really like keeping my word.  If I say something I want people to feel it will happen.  I know I take flip flops unwell, and it makes me think again if what someone says can be trusted.  I know things happen.  I give myself that out and I do others.  But they are the exception for me and others.
Then there are other things I read that just stop me in my tracks.  I read one today that has stuck with me all day.  “God did not call us to be good.  He called us to be free.”  I must confess I do not accept everything I hear or read.  When looking at quotes by famous people I do not put anything online if I cannot agree with it.  I will not say it if I do not believe it.
I thought a person can be good but bound but they cannot be free but bound.  Those words are exact opposites.  Free, bound.  A person can be free in one area and bound in another, but they cannot be free and bound in the same area.  Anyway, my thoughts.  I can be wrong.  I thought I was in 73 but I was mistaken.  A guy at table tennis made me laugh.  He said to say that I would have to be wrong and that can’t happen.
There are definitely principles I remember but for sure I remember them better if they are associated with a memorable one-liner.
