One Day

They reckon “what a difference a day makes,” and it is true I reckon.  It seems to me so often life is in cruise control and then things are turned upside down.
The pandemic was like that for me.  I remember the Prime Minister coming on television to declare the seriousness of the situation.  Then the first lock down came.  Things were so different.  Later I also remember taking my bro shopping and going outside to make a phone call.  When we first arrived, all was quiet and it was a typical day shopping.  When I went back inside the shopping centre there were people everywhere.  I could not believe what I was seeing.  Enquiring what was going on, I found another lock down had been declared and everyone was getting their stuff while they could.
9/11 was really like that for me too.  I felt up until that time the world was a benign place.  Peace was breaking out everywhere.  The USSR was dabbling in democracy, China was engaging the west, and there was no obvious threat.
Well I did not think their was.  One day changed my thinking.  After the planes crashed into the towers it seemed the world was closing in on me and to be a more dangerous place.
Surinam wining gold in the 50 meter freestyle at the Olympics was a “one day” thing for me.  I was so glad they got it.  I was happy to see medals shared around. To have one go to a country I had never heard of was a good thing.  The guy that won would have had his life changed I one day.  Suddenly he was a national hero.
Sometimes personal events are a one-day thing.  I knew it was inevitable but did not expect it when dad, mum and my bro bid me farewell.  Merril has been going through a bit of that lately.  Saying goodbye to loved ones is hard.  I know it is the lot of all but although expected, it is not easy.
Whatever the issue I know one day is “coming ready or not.”
