One at a Time
I was drawn to this as I guess it is my pet theme.  I believe in love big time.  Not the easier love that is the hallmark of many families and between friends but the love that takes greater effort.
I do not think many are seeing it expressed often.  This world has an element that is cutthroat.  Get them before they get you.  It is not everywhere, but it is seen very much in politics and relationships between nations.
I feel that the source of something matters less than the content.   I thought this article said a lot that was interesting and spot on.  I particularly like, “each person’s true good is a common good.”
I like that a lot.  It stands out to me that when an individual finds wholeness it has a ripple effect.  Instead of treating others out of a sense of frustration, others are treated with respect.  Deserving or not.  To me it is a “one at a time” thing.  Society to me will not find utopia, but one at a time, people can and do.
I also like “a virus that does not recognise barriers, borders or cultural or political distinctions must be faced with a love without barriers, borders or distinction”.  To me there are many things good and bad but whatever the bad is its solution is spelt the same way.  Love.
Below is a sample of what was said.
Continuing his series of talks on “healing the world”, highlighting Catholic social teaching, the pope reflected on the importance of love and the common good, especially in a time of crisis. The Christian response to the pandemic, he said, “is based on love,” which is difficult, especially when it means “loving the enemy…”
“Many times, a caress does more good than so many arguments; a caress of forgiveness and not many arguments to defend ourselves. It is inclusive love that heals,” the pope said, departing from his prepared remarks.
Love, he continued, not only makes families and friendships flourish, but also “social, cultural, economic and political relationships,” thus allowing for the growth of a “civilisation of love”.
Pope Francis said the coronavirus pandemic highlights how “each person’s true good is a common good” and that “a virus that does not recognise barriers, borders or cultural or political distinctions must be faced with a love without barriers, borders or distinction’.
“If the solutions for the pandemic bear the imprint of selfishness, whether it be by people, businesses or nations, we may perhaps emerge from the coronavirus crisis, but certainly not from the human and social crisis that the virus has brought to light and accentuated,” the pope said.
I examine such things in the light of me.  It is not up to me to tell other people how to live.  I am happy to make suggestions, but each person is responsible for their own decisions.  I like this stuff, but it is definitely easier to say than to live.  I need all the help I can get.
