On The Road Again

21/7/2023

I was not looking forward to today as we had an over five hour trip in front of us.   We were heading from Winton to Charters Towers.  We were probably impacted by the over five hour trip we started with from Brisbane to Roma.  We had been held up near Toowoomba twice.  We ended up taking over 8 hours.
But the trip from Winton to Charters Towers took the right amount of time.  I did the leg to Hughenden from Winton.  We left around 6am.  The road was a “Development road” but it was really quiet good.   We could see cars coming from a long way away as it was very straight.  That gave us a chance to slow down and pull over.  They actually did the same thing.  The only thing we were watching for were kangaroos.  We did come up to some next to a grid.  Fortunately, they split away from us.
Merril did the leg from Hughenden to Charters Towers.  We probably passed the same number of cars that had been on the initial leg in the first 5 minutes.
The trip turned out to be memorable for other reasons.  I was as crook as anything.  I think I had a temperature and was clammy.  What was so unlike me was I did not want to eat.  Merril went and got what was needed at Charters Towers.  I started to feel better after that and could eat again.  We booked into our motel and the person serving could not have been friendlier.
We had washing we wanted to do so went to a laundromat to do it.  Unfortunately there was not a washing machine available before they were due to close at three pm.  We had decided to do it the next day when someone working there offered to do our washing for us.  We took them up on the offer and went and got something to eat.
When asking where to eat I asked someone working and they were very obliging.  They went outside and pointed to a place they highly recommended.  They were right.
We are glad for a quiet night.  Tomorrow is Townsville and the Cowboys against Paramatta.  Both teams are erratic   We will be going to the Strand to see the sculpture of someone we met at Biloela.  It should be more relaxed from now on.
We hope.
