Observing

Why fly, when you can walk?
That seems to be the thinking of a crow that visits our yard.  Crows are not the most desirable birds to have around.  It is not like we are drawn to the dulcet tones of their song. And there are so many of them.  They seem to have taken over.  We had none, and now they are ever where.  Having said that, I have never met a crow personally, that I didn’t like.  My observation is, they mostly get what they want, in a laid back fashion.
The outback sitting area we have, is now enclosed by mesh and security screens.  Now, as long as we lock doors, we can forget and leave stuff out.
Our plan was to keep the mozzies out.  There is no doubt that will work.  If a mozzie arrives that is the size of the security screens, I will go inside anyway.   I really don’t know what I would do if a swarm arrived, that were that size.  I would hate to be caught outside - I can imagine being found after having been feasted on.
The birds seem bolder now the security screen is up.  It is like we are the ones in the cage.  Still everything is even better than we imagined, and we can observe without being seen.  It is probably like we are not there, because the birds do not know we are there.
We know when it is more than 18 degrees, by the multitude of black dots which are native bees, on the outside of their hive.  We can see the birds at the bird bath.  They have a drink and not a bath in winter.  We can watch the birds at their feeders.  Pee Wees are interesting to watch at the feeder.  Their way of getting to the seed they want, is to do a circle scattering all they don’t want.  The peaceful doves don’t mind.  They will eat from anywhere, and it is not uncommon to see them foraging in the undergrowth.
Rainbow Lorikeets and doves are the most common feeders.  For a brief moment there may be three doves and a Lorikeet at a feeder (rapping to the Play School song)
One of these things is not like the other, I was born by my mother and not by another
One of these things just doesn’t belong, I gotta be strong as I move along,
Can you guess which thing is not like the other, that latest bird is a plover,
Before I finish this song…….my name is Wong
Ok, I was clutching at straws but I think that is the end.  Fend.  Bend.  Lend.  Maybe not.   Rot.  Pot.  Lot   argggggh
Maybe if I start another paragraph, and pretend it is not there, then it won’t be there.  We both like to sit out the back and observe.   Merril does it when she comes home from work, or on days off, and I do it more times than I want to admit to.  Few. Glue. Stew. Moo.
There is definitely a down side to having time on my hands.  Bands. Glands. Cans.
