Numbers

This is article 911.  Dates are neither here nor there to me.  Just because this is the date the World Trade Centers came down and the course of history was changed for ever does not even cross my mind.  Not much anyway.  Nothing should be made of the fact it is dominating my thinking and I should get professional help.
I must admit I am a numbers man.  I count so many things.  I am not like Merril though.  She is a woman.  So often when driving around she points out a place and says “so and so lives there” and at another place says “that used to be so and so’s place.”  In fact, it is a bit of a running gag with us.  I pick houses at random and ask, “who lives there?”
Although I enjoy counting stuff, some numbers do not register with me.  27/7 for example is just another number to me.  Ok so it is the birthday of around 12 million people but apart from that it is just another number.
15/1 is not just another number though.  It is my birthday, but you would already know that.   You would have committed that date to memory with a reminder to yourself to get me a present.  If not, consider this a friendly reminder.  If you forget, my friends who I send around to your place will remind you.  Deep, deep, deep down they are really nice people.  My only advice would be do what they ask and you won’t get hurt.
I told a friend about me and numbers and he laughed.  He is the same.  He got into statistics and asked “what are the chances?”
I am not as bad as I used to be though.  I reckon it has more to do with a lack of opportunity that me having reformed my ways.  It is close to time for me to walk the 17 steps from where I am sitting and take the 18 second to fill the kettle for a coffee that normally takes me 7.3 minutes to consume.
Music apparently is maths in disguise.  I knew there was something sinister about maths.  I did ancient history in school instead of it, but I could not get away.  We put a plastic dinosaur on our letter box at number 4 and still get bills which are full of numbers.
Still I reckon numbers play a big part in my life.  The driveway had to be 90 cm from the fence.  We sought and got permission to have our new shed inside the legal requirement from a fence line.  We have it about 250mm from the fence.  Long table tennis rallies are spectacular.  The average is about two.  Same as tennis.  Clocks are everywhere and full of numbers.
The average lifespan is about 70 years or 840 months, or 25,200 days or 604,800 hours or 36,288,000 minutes or 2,177,280,000 seconds (did not account for leap years). And I just used a few of them working that out.
Numbers.  Even when I live without them, they are there still there.
