Nothing Special

There is an ad on tv at the moment that talks about how I am inclined to say “nothing special” about what are considered mundane activities when getting together with friends and loved ones.  It makes the point that all these activities are special.  I guess the purpose of the ad missed me as I do not remember what they are selling.  But I do remember that point.
I was considering what to write about today and I thought of yesterday’s activities.  My first thought was the day was “nothing special.”  But then I remembered the fallacy of saying nothing special.
I guess the day was nothing out of the ordinary, but I reckon being well and vertical is sorta special.  Not something to take for granted anyway.  There are a great many people who do not often get vertical and spend most of life horizontal.  Good start for me I reckon.
In the morning Merril and I went and saw someone which we always do.  We came across people we do not often see and it was not only great to see them but an offer of help was made for which we were extremely grateful for.
During the day we had a couple of ideas we are going to put into practice.  We know that work or effort will be involved but we know the end result will be good for us and others.  That is special I reckon.
At lunch time we went out for lunch.  Being able to order food and have it brought to you is pretty special I think.  Especially when I consider how many that is only a dream for.  I did not eat healthily but I did enjoy what I ate.  Merril ate healthy but could not finish her.  But I willingly helped her.
Having a sleep in the afternoon was special.  It may happen more often than not but I enjoy being an under-cover agent.  Having a bed to sleep on would be considered a luxury by many.
Going out with friends at night to something everyone enjoyed is a good thing.  We had a vehicle to take us there.  We got a good parking spot.  I talked to someone I had not seen in over 40 years.  I talked with someone else I had not seen in over a year but always enjoy their company.  All good.
The inclination might be to say, “nothing special,” but there were things in the day that definitely put the lie to that statement.  Special things happened.  Even the mundane was special in the light of what it was not.
All in all a good day.  Special?  When I think about it, yes.
